Brazilian Legend Sergio Mendes to Perform Free LA Concert

On Thursday, August 4 at 7:30 p.m., The Americana at Brand in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, will host legendary Brazilian performer Sergio Mendes. Celebrating the Blu-Ray and DVD release of “RIO: The Movie” for which he composed the soundtrack.

Mendes sky rocketed to global stardom with Brasil ’66, continued to win fans over with the #1 hit “Never Gonna Let You Go” and eventually won a Grammy Award for the smash hit album “Brasileiro.” Mendes collaborated with will.i.am and The Black Eyed Peas on the uber-catchy hit song “Mas Que Nada” which was featured on the soundtrack to the hit 3-D animation feature RIO.  His recently released “Celebration: A Musical Journey” brings together more than three dozen hits spanning his storied career as the master of the Bossa Nova beat.

  2Cellos featuring 24-year old rising stars and award winning cellists from Croatia, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, will kick-off the evening.  Launching to fame when they captivated YouTube viewers with their fiery rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” these talented cellists are taking the U.S. by storm, recently appearing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and touring this fall with the legendary Elton John.
