AT&T hosts “It Can Wait” Hackathon to discourage texting while driving – 9/7-8 & 9/18

Today, technology plays an important role in most of our lives.  It can make us more connected, can make everyday tasks more convenient and can even make us safer.

With that in mind, AT&T is challenging developers to create mobile apps that present a real solution to the texting while driving epidemic—which causes more than 100,000 automotive accidents every year—by inviting them to participate in an “It Can Wait” Hackathon in Los Angeles, Calif. on Sept. 7-8, 2012. The grand prize winner—announced on Sept. 18^th—will receive $20,000 from AT&T. The event is part of AT&T’s national campaign to save lives by discouraging texting while driving.

In a twist on the classic hackathon, five finalists will be selected following an intensive 24 hours of coding.  Those finalists will then have 10 days to refine their apps and present them again on Tuesday, Sept. 18—the eve of AT&T’s national day to discourage texting while driving.  At that time, winners will be selected and will receive the following prizes:

·         1^st Place: $20,000

·         2^nd Place: $7,000

·         3^rd Place: $3,000

     AT&T’s texting while driving simulator will also be on site for the first night, Friday, Sept. 7.

Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8  ----- 6 p.m.– 9 p.m------

Winners announced at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012.

AT&T Regains the Lead- 3G and 4G Speeds are IMPRESSIVE

PCWorld has tested 3G and 4G wireless data transfer speeds at multiple locations in 13 major cities and these are the results they got:























AT&T is quickly rolling out a 4G LTE network to compete with Verizon's LTE service, too. So far, the speeds that we've recorded for AT&T's LTE network are impressive: In the 11 cities in our test group where the service is available, the network delivered an average download speed of 9.12 mbps. That's about 25 percent faster, on average, than Verizon LTE's download average of 7.09 mbps in those same ten cities- PCWorld

AT&T Makes Major Network Improvements in 2011

Great News!!!! AT&T customers in the Los Angeles area are getting better coverage than ever before.  With so much broadband traffic on the smart phone highway, AT&T has added thousands of more lanes to its mobile super-highway. 

More than 1,700 network improvements were completed in Los Angeles, many in the last few months.  And because AT&T knows how important reliable and fast communication is to its customers the company continues to build its network.

Angelenos can also expect fewer dropped calls on the enhanced AT&T 4G network.  Dropped call rates have plummeted 41% this year.  Faster speeds, more capacity and increased reliability are the company’s highest priorities.

“We are committed to deliver the best customer experience possible, by expanding network capacity and improving service quality,” said Andy Shibley, AT&T Vice President and General Manager in Los Angeles.  “These improvements translate into tangible customer benefits.”

AT&T to Add More Mobile Broadband Capacity and 4G Service in Huntington Park

AT&T  announced its recent network upgrades in Huntington Park and unveiled more details on plans to provide area customers with faster speeds, increased reliability and best-in-class wireless service in 2011. 

AT&T announced several network enhancements, showing off a recently upgraded cell site and tower near the intersection of Maywood Avenue and Gage Avenue.  The cell tower is a high-capacity site, offering 850 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies, which provide customers in the area better in-building coverage and protection against interference with nearby sites.  

The cell site is one of three cell sites in Huntington Park that have been recently upgraded with additional capacity to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase mobile broadband in the area. AT&T also has deployed 4G to its mobile broadband network in Huntington Park.
