TRUTHDIG LAUNCHES WOMEN JOURNALIST PROJECT IN COLLABORATION WITH INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MEDIA FOUNDATION COURAGE IN JOURNALISM AWARD WINNERS



Leading news site Truthdig has launched an initiative called Global Voices: Truthdig Women Reporting to regularly publish foreign news reporting by top female journalists. Truthdig has collaborated with the International Women’s Media Foundation to select female journalists in various countries, all of whom are winners of IWMF’s Courage In Journalism and Lifetime Achievement awards that honor women reporters who risk their lives to expose the truth.  Initial funding for the Truthdig reporting project comes from the NoVo Foundation Fund at Tides Foundation. Outlets at Tejon Looking to Fill Positions at “Honor a Hero, Hire a Vet” Job and Resource Fair





“HONOR A HERO, HIRE A VET!” RETAILERS FROM THE OUTLETS AT TEJON LOOKING TO FILL POSITIONS AT JOB AND RESOURCE FAIR IN BAKERSFIELD ON JUNE 24

More than twenty stores opening on August 7 at the Outlets at Tejon are participating in the “Honor a Hero, Hire a Vet” Job and Resource Fair at the Bakersfield Marriott on Tuesday, June 24 from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  The job fair is open to anyone looking for employment, with a special focus on veterans, members of the National Guard and reservists returning from active duty.  Many of the retailers coming to the Outlets at Tejon will be participating in the job fair, including Aeropostale, A’gaci, Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Coach, Columbia Sportswear, Cotton On, Fossil, Gap, Gold Toe Stores, GUESS, J. Crew, Lane Bryant, Lids, LOFT Outlet, Lucky Brand, Michael Kors, Puma, Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, White House/Black Market and Windsor Fashion. 

Leading up to the job fair, the Outlets at Tejon and America’s Job Center are also sponsoring two Customer Service Workshops on June 17 at the David Head Center in Lamont to help prepare candidates on helpful skills including interview techniques, completing applications, resume tips and information about job openings. In addition, the Kern Community College District will be conducting a two week-long training session on Retail Customer Service Skills from June 16 – 27.  To enroll, or get more information about this particular training opportunity, please call (661) 336-5058.

SouthBay Pavilion in Carson wins prestigious Award from ICSC



The SouthBay Pavilion in Carson received a silver U.S. MAXI Award from the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for its innovative campaign “Pagbabahagi, Pagbahanihan, Pagbubuklod” that celebrated Filipino American History month.   SouthBay Pavilion partnered with the Philippine Consulate, governmental agencies, community organizations, LA based Filipino media outlets and local residents on the month-long event that entertained, educated, and brought awareness of the many contributions of Filipinos and Filipino Americans to mainstream society.  

Professional recognition for this award was given to Sweeney Mae Montinola, Marketing Manager, SouthBay Pavilion; Julie Cruz, General Manager, SouthBay Pavilion; Cheryl Roberts, CMD, Specialty Leasing, SouthBay Pavilion; Fred Sands, CEO, Vintage Capital Group; and John Desco, Executive Vice President, Vintage Capital Group.

Fred Sands, Chairman of Vintage Real Estate,  acquired SouthBay Pavilion in 2010 and since then, leasing activity has accelerated with lots of new transformations including a 56,906 square foot, 13-screen, stadium-style seating, large Cinemark Theater.
