The 80-year-old retired astronaut filed a lawsuit against Topps on Monday.
Robert C. O’Brien and Stephen Larson, co-counsel for Dr. Buzz Aldrin and StarBuzz LLC, filed a complaint against Topps Company, Inc., contending that the trading card company had unjustly profited from his historic achievement by including a photograph of the Apollo 11 mission in a series of trading cards.
The suit was filed as a last resort after Topps repeatedly refused to refrain from using Dr. Aldrin’s name, image or signature without his consent, or to compensate him for such unauthorized use.
Dr. Aldrin has been represented for over 12 years by Robert C. O’Brien, managing partner of Arent Fox LLP, Los Angeles, who has handled hundreds of infringement matters.
